Understand the job
How employers benchmark jobs
Match the work, not just the name.
What does it mean?
Benchmarking means matching a job’s actual duties and requirements to comparable roles in wage surveys or other market sources.
Why does it matter?
Titles can be misleading. A small-company “director” and a large-company director may do very different work.
How can it affect my pay or career?
Ask about the matched duties, geography, survey age, organization size and whether figures include bonuses. Survey percentiles are not a personal pay recommendation.
