Pay Concerns / U.S. guidance
U.S. Department of Labor resources
Federal wage-and-hour questions belong with DOL/WHD.
What does it mean?
The Wage and Hour Division (WHD) is the part of the U.S. Department of Labor that handles federal minimum wage, overtime and other laws it administers.
What to pay attention to
DOL/WHD does not handle every employment issue. State wage rules belong with the relevant state agency; employment discrimination questions may belong with EEOC or a state civil rights agency.
Where to go next
- 1
Read the worker FAQ and official complaint instructions.
- 2
Use the WHD contact page to locate an office or contact the agency at 1-866-487-9243.
- 3
Ask about coverage, confidentiality and applicable filing deadlines before relying on an assumption.
